Ecologistas en Acción ha denunciado ante la Comisión Europea la construcción en la campiña sevillana de un tramo de 16 kilómetros del ferrocarril de alta velocidad de Sevilla a Antequera (Málaga) dentro de la Zona de Especial Protección para las Aves (ZEPA), categoría de área protegida catalogada por la UE.

El portavoz de este colectivo en Sevilla, José Luis Anguita, ha explicado que esta denuncia se fundamenta en que esta plataforma ferroviaria se ha construido en una zona declarada ZEPA por su importancia para varias especies de aves esteparias, algunas amenazadas.

Ha destacado que estas obras ferroviarias continuaron, a pesar de la declaración de este tramo como zona protegida e incluso después de que la zona fuese incluida por la Junta de Andalucía en el programa Life para preservar las aves esteparias y mejorar sus hábitats en campiñas cerealistas, aprobado por la UE y que está dotado con 8,6 millones de euros hasta 2013.

A juicio de este colectivo ecologista, es difícilmente comprensible que la Junta de Andalucía pida financiación comunitaria para proteger un área que, al mismo tiempo, se ve amenazada por una infraestructura como el ferrocarril Sevilla-Antequera que también cuenta con financiación de la UE.

Otras repercusiones

Además, un túnel de este trazado ferroviario en la zona de Los Alcores (Sevilla) podría afectar al acuífero Sevilla-Carmona, uno de los más importantes del área metropolitana sevillana, así como algunos yacimientos arqueológicos, según Ecologistas.

Por todo ello, ha presentado este miércoles su denuncia en la reunión que el Consejo Provincial de la Biodiversidad de Sevilla. Tras este encuetro, un comunicado de la Consejería de Medio Ambiente ha informado de que ha iniciado "la aplicación del programa Life de protección de aves esteparias en campiñas de Sevilla", valorado por la delegada provincial de Medio Ambiente, Pilar Pérez, como "uno de los proyectos más importantes de los que desarrollamos actualmente en Sevilla" y que coincide con el Año Internacional de la Biodiversidad.

Andalucía alberga veinticinco especies de aves esteparias, de las que quince tienen algún grado de amenaza.
